Then PE and Art mash up to see what they can discover using experiences and materials they have used before to create new work:

Our Grade 2/3’s have been interacting with Grade 2 students in a school across the world in Colorado Springs, USA!
Ms. Davis in Colorado and Ms. Kelli at NISC started thinking about how we could connect our students and share their artwork with each other. Our first attempt was a success their Grade 2’s created collages of their learning communities and sent us a Voicethread to comment on their art. Ms Kelli put all the Grade 2/3’s art on FLICKR to share their emotions in art.
Here are the Grade 2’s Learning Community Collages:
And our Flickr feed:
feel free to see how the classes have shared comments with each other!
Now we are sharing our In the Style of drawings we are creating in our How We Express Ourselves unit:
Let us know what you think!
In the first unit, art is collaborating in a few of the units at various levels.
In the 4/5 unit, art is an integral piece of the inquiry into cultures and how we express ourselves.
While each student is go using on a different culture to inquire through, they are looking at how traditions, rituals and artifacts reflect the cultures beliefs and values. Each learner will also recreate an artifact used to reflect these beliefs and values.
Here is some in progress work that is taking place:
and a few completed:
In the 2/3 yellow class, students were inquiring into organs and what they really look like. After talking about medical illustration, the students observed dissections of a cow lung and the hearts of both a pig and cow. On their clipboards the learners recorded the sights, smells and details from the dissections which were led by upper school science students.
Some shots different students working in the art room or different projects we have been completing. Please check out pages above for some of the specific things on which each grade group has been working.
In Art with 2nd and 3rd grades we will be exploring line and color. We will use contour line to draw our portraits and explore how we use colors to define who we are. We will also be creating other symbols to represent ourselves in art. Reflection on the color meanings and drawing ourselves and symbols will be part of the class.
We used string to draw vases of flowers.
